Notes from the Camino Walking Tour Days 5 & 6: A Muxía Treasure … Casa de Trillo

We all arrived at Casa de Trillo a bit tired, only to be completely revived by the beautiful house and its surroundings. I think it was Barbara, one of our Ashland pilgrims, who immediately sunk into her bathtub to have a bubble bath! Many of us did exactly the same. By the time we arrived for dinner, we were all ready for a special slow food dinner. As one of the only locations in Galicia certified as a slow food provider, we enjoyed porco celto (yes, you read it right – celtic pork!) surrounded by vegetables from the garden, and wine from the region. We had three special guests with us that night: Tracey Saunders, author and owner of a very special refugio, The Little Fox House, for people transitioning off the Camino and needing a bit more time and space to reflect on their walk. Tracy also brought Jose Luis Sanches and his wife from Lisbon, pilgrims who had just come to visit Tracy at her special refuge, The Little Fox. We were an international table this night with Americans, Canadians, Spanish, South African, French, and Swedish dinner guests!!! Diverse in origin, but united by a great dinner table.

On our second night at Casa de Trillo, we were treated to an amazing panolply of seafood yet again. Our first course we had a Galician specialty – that looked a little bit like dinousaur claws, but never mind, once you got the hang of squeezing it out of the claw, the little morsel was divine. Casa de Trillo and our hosts Jesus and Rosa Trillo went out of their way to make our dinner incredible – ending with a Queimada – the ancient (and serious) cleansing that Galicians hold to clean the spirit of evil influences. We also had a chance to explore the history of the house a bit more, a house that has been in the Trillo family for more than 500 years and is a perfect example of Galician architecture and history. If you end your Camino in Finisterre, Muxía, or even Santiago, Casa de Trillo defines beauty and relaxation.
