1/11/11 marked the start of our Power of One campaign – let the crowdfunding begin! I finally realized that I need to ask for help – from the very same people that made my first Camino possible: the pilgrims.
The campaign will go on for 111 days, during which we will raise $111,111! Well, actually our bare minimum goal to get to a rough cut is $75,000. But I sure would love to raise more, because then we could move into the fine cut and pay for things like music, color correction, sound mixing, online editing, etc. So… I’m really “banking” on the campaign being a successful one!
The part I’ve loved about it so far has been reaching out and connecting with Camino lovers around the world. Back in November, when I decided to try the crowdfunding route, KC urged me to first expand our fan base before launching the campaign. (Once again, she showed wisdom beyond her years and I, in turn was smart enough to listen!) So, after much research, I started connecting with people on Facebook.
I was surprised to see how much fun I’ve had looking for fun things to post, commenting on people’s posts, uploading photos and videos, and tagging our crew members and pilgrims. In late October, we had just over 111 “likes” on our page and in just 2 1/2 months, that number’s increased to nearly 800 – with almost 11 new likes every day.
A huge thanks to our Facebook fans for liking our page, commenting on posts, and spreading the word – keep it up! We’d like to have 11,111 friends by the end of the campaign (May 1st)!
I am hopeful I will be able to reach thousands of pilgrims, Camino lovers and strangers around the world that want to see this documentary get finished and become part of our team. Please donate and get as many people as you know to do the same. Share our website and campaign page on your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube – anything and everything. The more people we get to participate, the closer we’ll be to editing.
Thanks for your support, and ¡Buen Camino!
P.S. While strategizing and designing the campaign, Andrew, KC and I took the opportunity to redesign our whole website, too. Isn’t it snazzy??
P.P.S. Our web development team (a.k.a. Andrew Zabel) is working on getting the new website up in Spanish – stay tuned!
