Sally’s Notes from the Camino Walking Tour, Day 1

Hi!

Today was the first day of our “Walk to the End of the World/Walking the Camino; Six Ways to Santiago” Tour! We have six intrepid pilgrims with us: Barbara, Alex, Carmen, Diane, Stephanie and Kerstin – hailing from Oregon, South Africa, Ohio, and California respectively.  Everyone had a great breakfast at the beautiful Hotel San Francisco Monumenta in Santiago and then we were on our merry way! The sky started out blue with a few clouds and pretty much that was it was for the entire day.  We had sprinkles but perfect walking weather. We had a little hill in the middle and then a lovely lunch at Ponte Maceirawith a view of amazing Roman bridge. At lunch, Diane had the great joy to find out that her “orange” bag had arrived after its long sojourn at JFK. We then finished our day at Alburgue San Jose in Negreira, where our lovely driver, Perry, gave us all our first day congratulations drink of his homemade coffee liqueur!

We are staying at two amazing spots on the outskirts of Ngreira-Casa de Bola and Casa Gasamáns.

Kerstin had a nice quote for today: “to go with the flow…” She was observing the beautiful fields and how all the grass was bending in the wind and going with the flow, but was still rooted in the ground.

Now off to a fabulous dinner… and 22 km of walking mañana!

xo Sally
