Sally’s Notes from the Camino Walking Tour, Day 3

After a long day of walking (day 2) through the Galician rain, we had a wonderful dinner at Casa Gasamáns last night…again an amazing feast…started out with pulpo (octopus) sliced as thin as carpaccio beef – delicious, followed by scallops in a pool of local olive oil and garlic, we couldn’t get enough – and the symbolism of the scallop shell of our pilgrimage could not be missed…then on to a tasty meat pie but the finale – the flan con queso – that was the best! Another incredible dinner!

Up this morning (day 3) to start our day at the “dolmas” – Stone Hedge-type rocks that are strewn all over Galica – dating from around 300-400 BC. They can be found from Galicia all the way up the Atlantic coast to Ireland and England. Fascinating. Then a beautiful walk again – in the afternoon we were out of the small towns and on a dirt track skirting by a mountain. So peaceful. We ended our day at a little Hermitage where we could have our joints blessed, which seemed rather appropriate after three days of 20 plus kilometers. We are now snuggled into our wonderful casa rural for the night: Cabañas Lires. Where we have three beautiful little cabañas and the rest of of us are snugly tucked into the main house. The hospitality by all our hosts along the route has been astounding. We have been treated like queens (and Ivan – the king).

We also have had a great driver, Perry, the owner of an alburgue in Negreira – Albergue San Jose – who has kindly agreed to shepherd us around while we travel through Galicia. He has a big brown van, which I have dubbed the “Scooby Van.” We are very happy to see it at the end of our day!

Ok, off to yet another amazing meal. ¡Mas mañana! Sally
